Message from the Dean
Kampala International University School of Law is as old as the University itself – founded in 2002. The School is located at the University’s main campus situated in Kansanga, a very vibrant, accessible and friendly community in Kampala.
The School is founded on the vision of providing a conducive teaching and learning environment tailored at producing excellent graduates capable of meeting the needs of the legal job market. The School offers a contemporary undergraduate curriculum that is periodically updated in line with changes and mutations in the legal and regulatory environments. While the basic references are in sync with the legal system of the host country, Uganda, the course content is designed to suit the needs of the Common Law system at large.
Reports show that our graduates have enrolled for the bar course in their respective countries with ease where they have also performed credibly well. The achievements of our alumni have been instrumental in establishing the outstanding reputation our Law School enjoys nationally, regionally and internationally.
Apart from teaching, we offer complementary opportunities for our students to gain practical and valuable legal experience in a broad range of programs and activities; moot court sessions, clinics, and clerkships among others. Our School, for example, has participated in international moot competitions such as the Human Rights competition in Zambia and South Africa and the Media Law competition in the UK to mention but a few. During these competitions, students are engaged in mock trials on topical legal issues. No doubt, our students have recorded outstanding successes at these competitions.Details
The highly rated performance of our students is attributed to the quality of teaching; credited to our team of dedicated and committed staff, and the conducive environment at KIU. The School is endowed with a collection of qualified, dedicated and experienced academicians whose individual and collective efforts have contributed significantly in enabling the School of Law deliver on its core mandate to the students.
The results of these efforts continually radiate through our graduates serving in different vocations of the legal profession; legal practitioners (the Bar); judicial officers (the Bench); state attorneys, law instructors, corporate and tax lawyers, legal advisers, and consultants.
We equally offer strong and vibrant postgraduate studies with assured learning outcomes of skill enhancements, critical thinking, data analysis, problem-solving and project management. Through our well structured postgraduate training programs, candidates develop cutting-edge research skills and the much-needed expertise that makes them stand out in the highly competitive job market. The needs of progression and advancement within existing careers are also well covered.
With conducive learning facilities, affordable tuition, low student-lecturer ratio, impressive library facilities; including e-resources, I do welcome and encourage you to enroll at our Law School for a sound and quality legal education.
